Video mapping on facades, rooms and stages

We project video fitted to the exact shape of a facade, a room, a floor or a stage. We do the mapping, the content and the operation, and when the project calls for it we leave the projection scheduled so it runs on its own.

We have been doing video mapping in Chile since 2011, on facades, rooms, stages and open spaces. We work with MadMapper, which we teach at our academy, and we built AXIS, a video mapping app that runs in the browser.

What we do

  • Video mapping on facades and architecture, indoors and outdoors.
  • Projection on floors, objects and set pieces.
  • Projector, lumen and position calculations, with blending between projectors.
  • Our own audiovisual content, with animation and generative AI.
  • Mapping and operation with MadMapper, live or on a schedule.
  • Projection for exhibitions and long-running shows.

How we work

  1. 01

A first meeting to understand the venue, the event and the story.

  2. 02

Site visit with measurements, photos and projector and lumen calculations.

  3. 03

Visual and technical proposal with equipment and schedule.

  4. 04

Content production fitted to the surface.

  5. 05

    Setup, mapping, rehearsal and operation.

Case

Ocean projected onto the salt floor of Cronómetro at MAVI

Cronómetro, an ocean over 430 m² of salt

Cronómetro is an installation by Denise Lira-Ratinoff in room 5 of the Museo de Artes Visuales (MAVI). An ocean filmed by the artist in 4K is projected onto 430 m² of salt floor, and visitors see it from the museum entrance and from a tunnel with a glass floor. Trimex did the digital setup and the video mapping of the floor. The room's pillars cut the light, so a second computer remotely maps those shadows and the blends are spread around each pillar.

Problem
Covering 430 m² of salt floor with 4K video, in a room with pillars that cut the light
Technical decision
Three Panasonic 8,000 ANSI lumen laser projectors run with MadMapper from a Mac Pro, and a second computer that maps the pillars' shadows
Result
Blends spread around each pillar and 360° projection on the base of each one
Operation
Scheduled
Run
From January 5 to February 10, 2019
Location
Room 5, Museo de Artes Visuales (MAVI), Santiago

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to project onto a facade?

Low ambient light, a surface without lights on it and a place in front of it for the projectors. On the site visit we measure the facade and calculate how many projectors and lumens are needed.

Can you project during the day?

Projection shows in low light. Outdoors it is scheduled from dusk. Indoors it works during the day if the room can be darkened.

Do you bring the projectors?

Yes. We quote the full equipment or work with the projectors the production company or venue already has.

Do you make the content?

Yes. We produce content fitted to the shape of the space, with animation and generative AI. We also map content provided by the brand, the production company or the artist, as in Cronómetro.

Can you train our team?

Yes. Our Academy runs video mapping and MadMapper courses, online and live.

How far ahead should we book?

Four weeks is ideal. We also work on short notice. Write to us or book a meeting and we will see what can be done in the time you have.
